Sangolli Rayanna and the Kittur resistance

Sangolli Rayanna is remembered for his resistance to British rule in the Kittur region of present-day Karnataka. A follower of Rani Chennamma, he gathered supporters and continued the struggle against British authority.

The Ministry of Culture’s account records his attacks around Nandagad and neighbouring places, followed by his capture and execution in 1831. A commemorative sculpture offers a way to honour his courage and place in Karnataka’s history.
